Navy improved to 5-2 as they dominated Notre Dame, 35-17, in a game played at the New Meadowlands Stadium. Each week GoMids.com recognizes a top offensive player, defensive player and an unsung hero. Look inside to find out which players GoMids.com honors this week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FB
Alexander Teich
There is no doubt who the offensive star was for the Mids on Saturday. Teich ran all over the Irish to the tune of 210 yards on 26 carries. He also hauled in a 31-yard TD pass from
Ricky Dobbs
on a well-timed screen. Teich's career-high rushing total was the most ever for a
Navy
player against
Notre Dame
and also the first time a Navy fullback has gone over the 200-yard mark.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LB
Tyler Simmons
Simmons led the Navy defense with 10 tackles on the day. He and the rest of the defense held Notre Dame to only 106 yards rushing on 30 carries.
UNSUNG HEROES OF THE WEEK
P
Kyle Delahooke
Delahooke's 44 yard punt with 2:37 left in the first half was downed at the Notre Dame 3-yard line and helped change the game. Three plays later, Irish QB
Dayne Crist
threw an interception which Navy converted into a late TD, increasing the Mids' lead to 21-10 at halftime. Delahooke had another punt fair caught at the ND 5-yard line.
NOTE
:
No player can be named POTW more than three times during a season. Players also cannot be named POTW for two consecutive games.
