GoMids.com continues its analysis of the Navy depth chart after spring drills. Today we look at the Midshipmen's cornerbacks.

Left Cornerback

Starters:  Kwesi Mitchell #11 Sr.

Back ups: Albrey Felder #17 So.

Third String:  Eric Graham #4 So.

Senior cornerback Kwesi Mitchell is the only returning starter in the secondary. Mitchell (5-10, 189) started all 13 games last year. He made 48 tackles, forced three fumbles, broke up three passes and intercepted one. Mitchell struggled down the stretch in 2010 and needs to be more consistent in his technique. Kwesi has good but not great speed and can be beat deep.

Sophomore Albrey Felder is a 5-6, 160 pound flyer from Orange Park Florida. Felder had a tremendous spring and moved up to number two on the depth chart. Felder played cornerback at NAPS in 2009. I thought that with his diminutive frame he might be moved to slot back since he also played running back in high school, however, Felder has excelled at cornerback and won the backup spot. Albrey is roadrunner fast.

Third string cornerback Eric Graham also impressed playing cornerback at the Naval Academy Prep school in 2009. Graham is a 6-0, 187 pound sophomore from Alabama and is a smooth, agile cover corner that can turn and run. Graham is quick and shows a burst to the ball but needs to improve his technique.

Right Cornerback

Starters:  David Sperry #25 Jr.

Back ups: Jonathan Wev #25 So.

Third String: David Wright #18 Sr.

David Sperry won the right cornerback job with an excellent spring. Sperry played in all 13 games last year mostly on special teams posting eight tackles and broke up a pass in limited playing time. Sperry, a junior, offered good size (5-11, 173) at cornerback, has quick feet and can play man coverage. He broke up a pass in the Blue & Gold game.

Sophomore Jonathan Wev won the backup right cornerback job. Wev is a 5-9 190 pound cornerback who played in the final eleven games last year almost entirely on special teams. Wev was a safety in 2009 at the prep school.  He is a very competitive, smart player with a great motor and has outstanding field awareness. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

Senior David Wright had a disappointing spring hurting his left shoulder. He missed the Blue & Gold game as a result of his injury. He has dropped to third string on the depth chart. Wright entered the spring as the most experienced cornerback other than Mitchell. Wright played in all 13 games a year ago and he made two starts. Wright (6-2, 179) earned his first start at Louisiana Tech last year and made seven tackles.
