It was a good run but all good things must come to an end. The United States Military Academy baseball team fell to Oklahoma, 2-1, today in Charlottesville, Virginia. The NCAA loss ended Army’s season with a 41-15 record.

Army was victimized by stranded base runners today. The Black Knights out-hit the Sooners 6-5 and played error free defense but left too many base runners stranded (9).

Things looked bright early on. Army took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of fifth when Zach Price’s single scored Harold Earls. However, the Sooners tied the score at one in the fifth and then, with the game extended to a tenth inning, took a 2-1 lead after producing a 2-hit final inning.

Army got a runner on board in the bottom of the tenth off a Sooner throwing error but couldn’t advance the runner any further than second base.

Steven Okert picked up the win for Oklahoma, which will have to defeat host Virginia twice to advance to a Super Regional. Army’s Gunnar Carroll took the loss.

Army’s baseball squad stormed through the 2012 Patriot schedule, losing only two conference games. The Black Knights then took 2-of-3 from Holy Cross in the Patriot League Tournament to win that title. The 41 wins by Army this season was the most ever by an Army baseball team and the most in Patriot League history.
