Jackson makes it official

Aaron Jackson, a 6-foot-3 wide receiver from Frankfort (Ky.) HS, is the latest commitment for new WKU head coach Bobby Petrino.

Frankfort (Ky.) High School wide receiver Aaron Jackson didn't want to wait another day to make his college commitment.

He knew that Western Kentucky was exactly the place for him.

Jackson committed to the Hilltoppers on Jan. 15, before taking his official visit to the school over the Jan. 18 weekend.

"I'm just so excited right now," he said. "I'm looking forward even more to my visit now, it will be more fun knowing I'm already committed."

Jackson picked the Hilltoppers over offers from Bowling Green, Air Force and Navy among others, in addition to strong interest from programs like Louisville and Kentucky.

He was recruited to WKU by new assistant coach Mike Cassity.

"Coach (Mike) Cassity came and saw me yesterday," Jackson said. "He was telling me how bad they wanted me and stuff.

"Then I talked to Coach (Bobby) Petrino today, after I thought about it for a while I called him back and told him I was ready to commit. He said he was really excited and glad about it."

Petrino and Jackson aren't the only people excited about his commitment.

"Everybody at my house is going crazy right now," Jackson said. "My mom really likes Western.

"She felt it was the right place for me, she really likes (Coach) Petrino. They know that with me being a receiver, this is the right spot for me."

The 6-foot-3, 185 pound receiver said the success of Petrino's passing offense at his previous coaching stops was a big factor in the decision.

"It (WKU) is such a nice fit, especially with his (Petrino)'s offense," Jackson said. "The recruiting process has been so hectic.

"I know it's the right place for me, so I was ready to go on and commit."

Jackson is the No. 25 commitment in the Class of 2013 for WKU, joining Nicholas Norris, Jalen Edwards, and Lonnie Turner (JUCO) in the wide receiver group.
