The Granite Bay (Calif.) linebacker, Beau Hershberger, talks about committing to Nevada on his official visit...

Granite Bay (Calif.) linebacker Beau Hershberger took his official visit to Nevada, lacking an offer from the Pack, but eager to see where the weekend led.

By the time he made the two-hour drive home, Hershberger not only had an offer from Nevada, the Pack had a commitment from the three-star.

“The trip was awesome, and it had beautiful weather, the coaching staff was solid and I really liked what they had to say. The current players took me under their wing and everything about it was great,” said Hershberger.

Still, Hershberger needed the offer to come before he could make a decision.

“They were hinting at us that they would be offering before the end of the weekend and once they offered, I knew I wanted to be there,” said Hershberger.

Hershberger was hosted by Brock Hekking and spent a lot of time talking with the new coaches at Nevada, including head coach Brian Polian and linebackers coach/defensive coordinator Scott Hazleton.

“Coach Hazelton had been there three days, and he’s awesome,” said Hershberger. “and Coach Polian is going keep this program up. All the coaches were the same, all really enthusiastic and it seemed like a really good family.”

Hershberger said the proximity of Nevada to his hometown played a big role.

“It’s only two hours so of course that was a big thing,” said Hershberger. “To be able to have your family and friends close by is nice. We take family vacations to Tahoe so we’ll be close enough for me to head there.”

Hershberger said he got more clarity from the coaches with where they want him to play.

“They want me to play a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end spot for them,” said Hershberger.

With his decision done, Hershberger said he can now focus on his offseason training regiment.

“I’m just focusing on getting bigger and training,” said Hershberger. “Their exact words were ‘don’t worry about putting the weight on’. I’ll probably be playing at about 240, but keeping my speed and strength. Of course, making my decision, it’s so stress relieving, I can remember last week, freaking out about what I was going to do, but it’s nice to have it done.”
