Big Texas lineman has Navy offer

Evan Curl is a 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive tackle in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex who Navy's taken a strong interest in. Last week, Coach Mick Yokitis visited Flower Mound (Texas) High School with his head coach, Dane Johnson, and by mid-week Curl had fourth offer.

"When Coach Yokitis came by the the school he asked my coach for my film," Curl told "Next thing you know, he's offering me on Wednesday, a day later. Coach Yokitis said he was impressed with what he saw. He said that I was one of his favorites because my maturity and that he feels like I'd be a good fit with Navy. One of the biggest things he said he liked about me were my grades. He thinks I'd be able to get it done on the classroom and on the field. With football, he liked my physical play, my foot work, and my dedication.

"Navy definitely has the best combination of academics and football around. You know you're going to play for a good team and receive a world class education."

Curl's parents are both University of Texas graduates. He says he's primarily a fan of the Big 12 and has garnered interest from Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. His other three current offers are from Texas State, North Texas, and Toledo.

"My decision isn't just about playing football," Curl said. "It's about where I think I'd fit in the best. I'm going to be spending a lot of time on campus for the next four years so I want to somewhere I'm comfortable with. I want to go to a school where I can get to play against some good competition with solid academics."

Tentatively, Curl said he would like to make a college choice by late summer. This fall, he's hoping to help his team, the Jaguars improve from a 2-8 showing a year ago.

"I played JV ball as a sophomore," Curl stated. "I started on the varsity all of last season and was named All-District. The biggest thing I feel like I've improved on this year is being more flexible in the hips, more flexible overall really, and on my foot speed."

Curl also competes in wrestling, shot put, and discus for Flower Mound. Recommended Stories
