Navy tops Temple, 30-19

PHILADELPHIA-- Navy's Matt Harmon kicked three field goals while Shun White and Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada combined for 224 yards rushing as the Midshipmen opened their 2007 season with a 30-19 win over the improved Temple Owls.

It was Navy head coach Paul Johnson's 100th career victory.

Navy fullback Adam Ballard rumbled in from 1 yard out to give the Mids a 7-0 lead 7:41 remaining in the quarter. Exactly 3 minutes later Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada's 44-yard run increased the Navy lead to 14-0 after a drive of 2 plays and 64 yards.

Temple got on the board with 13:12 remaining in the half on Jake Brownell’s 41-yard field goal.

The Owls struck again with 9:23 remaining in the half when quarterback Adam DiMichele found Daryl Robinson for a 18-yard scoring toss Temple within four at 14-10. However, Navy scored 10 quick points to finish the half. Adam Ballard scored on a 5-yard run with 5:40 remaining and then Matt Harmon booted a 23-yard field goal as time expired to make the score Navy 24 Temple 10 at the half.

After fullback Adam Ballard fumbled on Navy's first drive of the second half, the Owl's Brownell kicked his second field goal of the day, this time from 25-yards, to pull Temple to within 11 at 24-13.

With 11:43 remaining Navy's Harmon connected on his second field goal of the day, this time from 30 yards, top put Navy back up by 14.

Temple would not quit. The Owls drove deep into Navy territory and then chose to go for it on fourth down. Then, with 4:06 remaining, DiMichele connected with Matt Ballasavage on a 23-yard scoring strike to bring the Owls to within 8. Navy blocked the extra point attempt to leave the score at 27-19.

Harmon then added his third field goal of the night with 1:07 remaining to give Navy a 30-19 lead. That field goal spanned 43 yards.

Navy improves to 1-0 with the win. The Midshipmen will next face Rutgers on Friday night. Temple drops to 0-1 and next faces Buffalo on Saturday.
