Terry Booted From Team

Two key defensive performers for the Navy football team now gone.

Sources tell GoMids.com writer Adam Nettina that senior safety Darius Terry has been dismissed from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules. A source close to the team also reported on Tuesday that junior outside linebacker Travis Sudderth is leaving the Academy.

Navy Sports Information Director Scott Strassmeier confirmed both Terry's dismissal and Sudderth's departure when contacted on Tuesday afternoon, but would not comment further on the nature of Terry's offense.

Terry, a 5-foot-7, 172-pound defensive back from Houston, Texas, was expected to compete for a starting position in the secondary after filling in for then-departed safety Emmett Merchant during the spring. He was regarded as one of the defense's biggest surprises during spring camp, although his role in 2009 was yet to be determined with the return of Emmett Merchant to the secondary.

Sudderth, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound outside linebacker, never cracked the starting lineup at Navy, but was expected to give the Midshipmen linebacking corps depth going into the 2009 season.
