GoMids.com Players of the Week

Navy fell 31-27 at #6 Ohio State on Saturday, September 6. Each week GoMids.com recognizes a top offensive player, defensive player and unsung heroes. Look inside to find out which players GoMids.com honors this week.
The
Navy
Midshipmen fell just short of a huge upset in the opening game of the 2009 season, as
Ohio State
needed a late interception on a Navy two-point conversion try to close out the Mids, 31-27.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
C
Curtis Bass
Bass put all the concerns about last minute offensive line shuffling to rest by providing a stellar effort in the Horseshoe. Navy piled up 342 yards in offense against #6 Ohio State despite the obvious size differential between the two teams.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
S Emmitt Merchant
Merchant came off a turbulent off-season to reclaim his starting position, only to get shaken up on the opening kickoff of the game. He returned to the game - only to get dinged again - but recovered to notch 8 tackles and grab a key interception late in the game that positioned Navy deep in OSU territory.
UNSUNG HEROES OF THE WEEK
P
Kyle Delahooke
Delahooke had 3 punts in the game, averaging almost 44 yards per kick with a long of 49, but one of those was from the back of his own endzone.
NG
Chase Burge
Burge had 4 tackles on the day and put to rest any fears about the defensive line. He and Jabaree Tuani gave the bigger OSU offensive line fits all day.
NOTE
:
No player can be named POTW more than three times during a season. Players also cannot be named POTW for two consecutive games.
