Navy defeated Louisiana Tech on September 12, 32-14. Each week GoMids.com recognizes a top offensive player, defensive player and unsung heroes. Look inside to find out which players GoMids.com honors this week.
The
Navy
Midshipmen bounced back from a tough opening loss at
Ohio State
with a come-from-behind 32-14 win against
Louisiana Tech
. Despite falling behind 14-0 in the first 6 minutes of the game, the Mids held the Bulldogs to just 93 yards in offense the rest of the way in evening their record at 1-1.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SB
Marcus Curry
Curry had 15 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown, as Louisiana Tech loaded up the middle to stop the fullback. The slotback from Carrolton, Texas, ran strong all day and rarely went down on first contact.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LB
Tyler Simmons
Simmons led the Navy defense with 7 tackles on the day, as the Mids overcame an impressive Louisiana Tech opening drive to stifle the Bulldog offense. Simmons and the rest of the Navy defense held Tech to 11 yards rushing on 17 carries - an average of 0.6 yards per carry.
UNSUNG HEROES OF THE WEEK
P
Kyle Delahooke
Delahooke is putting to rest any fears about Navy's punting. His three punts averaging nearly 48 yards per kick included an impressive 49 yarder that went out of bounds at the Louisiana Tech 8 yard line to keep the Bulldogs pinned deep in their own territory.
DE Jabaree Tuani
Although Tuani was only credited with one tackle, he also broke up a pass and made an athletic play to notch his first career interception. Tuani contributed to strong defensive line play which really stifled the Bulldog rushing attack.
NOTE
:
No player can be named POTW more than three times during a season. Players also cannot be named POTW for two consecutive games.
