The
Navy
Midshipmen improved to 3-2 on the season with a 16-13 overtime win at home vs. service academy rival
Air Force
in the first leg of the Commander-in-Chief Trophy competition. The Mids return to action on October 10 at
Rice
.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
K
Joe Buckley
Buckley put a strangle-hold on the Navy placekicking job by going 3-for-3 on the day, hitting kicks from 47, 37 and 38 yards. His 38 yard kick in overtime proved to be the game-winner as Navy beat Air Force for the 7th consecutive year.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
S
Wyatt Middleton
Middleton had a monster game on defense for the Mids, racking up 9 tackles and breaking up two passes. His sure tackling helped hold Air Force to only 183 yards on the ground, with the Falcons' longest gain only amounting to 21 yards.
UNSUNG HERO OF THE WEEK
K
Jon Teague
Despite losing the place-kicking job during practice, Teague boomed his four kickoffs against Air Force for a 66.2 yard average, including one touchback. These kicks were able to keep the dangerous
Reggie Rembert
from breaking a return longer than 25 yards during the game.
NOTE
:
No player can be named POTW more than three times during a season. Players also cannot be named POTW for two consecutive games.
