Navy defeated Wake Forest, 13-10, in a driving rainstorm on October 24th in Annapolis. Each week GoMids.com recognizes a top offensive player, defensive player and an unsung hero. Look inside to find out which players GoMids.com honors this week.
The
Navy
Midshipmen improved to 6-2 on the season with a 13-10 win in Annapolis vs.
Wake Forest
on October 24. The Mids will host
Temple
on October 31.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FB
Vince Murray
We generally don't allow the selection of the same player in consecutive weeks, but there's room for exception when you run for 175 yards in a monsoon. Murray eclipsed his career high rushing total for the second week in a row, piling up 175 yards in 27 carries, including a crucial 42 yard gain on 3rd and 9 with 2:21 on the clock. That first down enabled Navy to run out the clock and clinch the win.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LB
Tony Haberer
Haberer had a monster game for the Mids, notching 8 tackles including 2 sacks on Wake Forest QB
Riley Skinner
UNSUNG HEROES OF THE WEEK
LS
Brian Ackerman
QB/Holder
Greg Zingler
K
Joe Buckley
This trio came up huge on three place kicks in ridiculous conditions. Buckley was good on field goals of 50 (a career best) and 41 yards and an extra point, but it all starts with the snap and placement. Ackerman and Zingler have done a masterful job all season in giving Buckley the opportunity to make kicks, and to be flawless in wet and windy conditions is all the more impressive.
NOTE
:
No player can be named POTW more than three times during a season. Players also cannot be named POTW for two consecutive games.
