Navy beat Notre Dame, 23-21 on November 7th in South Bend. The win was the Mids' second straight win at Notre Dame. Each week GoMids.com recognizes a top offensive player, defensive player and an unsung hero. Look inside to find out which players GoMids.com honors this week.
The
Navy
Midshipmen improved to 7-3 on the season and clinched a berth in the Texas Bowl with a 23-21 win at
Notre Dame
on November 7th. The Mids will next host Delaware on November 14th for Senior Day.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
QB
Ricky Dobbs
Dobbs returned from a knee injury to lead the Mids' to 404 yards of total offense. Dobbs had 31 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown, and also completed 2 of 3 passes for 56 yards and another score. The Navy offense, with Dobbs at the helm, were 2-for-2 on 4th down conversions.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DB
Blake Carter
Carter fought all day long against the Notre Dame tandem of
Golden Tate
and
Michael Floyd
, ending the day with 9 tackles and two passes broken up, but his most important play was when he forced a
Jimmy Clausen
fumble at the 1 yard line at the end of the 3rd quarter.
UNSUNG HEROES OF THE WEEK
LB
Ram Vela
P
Kyle Delahooke
It's too bad Vela can't play every game in Notre Dame Stadium. Two years removed from his legendary diving sack attempt, Vela again made a huge impact defensively for the Mids. Vela notched 9 tackles, broke up one pass, recovered a Notre Dame fumble and also grabbed a key interception in the 4th quarter to protect the Mids' lead.
It seems like Delahooke finds his way here every week, but his 55-yard punt to the Notre Dame 13 yard line with 1:48 left in the game set the table for Craig Schafer's sack of Clausen that provided the winning margin. Delahooke punted 5 times for an average of 46.2 yards.
NOTE
:
No player can be named POTW more than three times during a season. Players also cannot be named POTW for two consecutive games.
