With National Signing Day less than a month away, there are still a few athletes seeking the right…
Hutton Excited About Navy Offer
According to Hutton, one of the member's from the Navy Coach Staff made a guest appearance at his school a few weeks ago. But he admitted that he had no idea that an offer was going to be followed so closely behind... "The wide receiver's coach (Danny O'Rourke) came down to my school about three weeks ago and met with my coaching staff," Hutton shared. "And while he was there, he picked up some of my academic information/transcripts. But I had no idea they were going to offer me so soon. It was a bit of a surprise to me."
Hutton informed GoMids.com that Rice, TCU, Yale, and Villanova have been expressing genuine interest in him as a prospect as well. And that he's very eager to learn more about all of them. But as we continued on our conversation with the gifted wideout, he simply did not hide his true feelings regarding the Naval Academy.
"I am very excited about the offer from Navy; I love it," the Texas prep star said with the sound of excitement in his voice. "Oh yes, they are definitely in the lead. I feel it's a great opportunity for me. They really put a lot of money into their program, which allows for everybody to succeed."
On this past season, Hutton hauled in 35 passes for 375 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. Hutton may not have the flashiest numbers, but there's one particular area of his game that separates him from the average pass catcher… "Blocking," Hutton said. "That is definitely my strongest point. That's why Navy has been recruiting, because I had a lot of good blocking on my film. They told me they really loved my film."
Although colleges mostly rave about Logan's blocking skills, make no mistake, he is very capable of putting up big numbers whenever he is called upon. And he certainly proved it against North Shore on this past season. "That was probably my best game; against North Shore," he said. "They were ranked 6th in the state of Texas. In that game I had 6 catches for 115 yards."
Hutton went on to receive 1st Team All-District Honors as a Wide Receiver and as a Punter this past fall. As a punter, he averaged 40.5 yards.
Should Hutton decide to make Navy his choice, he should not have any problems getting accepted into the program from an academic standpoint. "I'm fine academically," Hutton said. "My GPA is a 4.14. And my SAT score was a 1018 (Math and Critical Reading)."
In closing, Logan shared that he and his family are very serious when it comes to academics. So it's definitely no secret that academics will play a major factor, whenever it comes time for him to make a decision. "My decision will be based on academics mostly," Hutton said. "My parents stress that all the time. It's not playing time, distance, or anything like that. It's about being in the best place where I can succeed in the classroom."
Stay tuned with GoMids.com as we continue to keep track of Hutton's commitment as the clock continues to tick toward Signing Day 2010.
