First Team Offense
QB: Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada Navy
Comments: He only rushed for 295 yards and only threw for 305 more, but Navy’s biggest wins of the season (Rutgers, Wake Forest I) came in games he started. Kaipo is hands down the best option quarterback amongst the service academies when healthy…or even when at 75% or better.
.
RB: Shun White Navy
Comments: White became the first slot back in Navy history to rush for more than 1,000 yards and his 8 TDs led the team. The senior’s 8.3 yards per carry is tops in the nation. His 348-yard game against Towson is one of the best games ever for a Mid.
RB: Collin Mooney Army
Comments: His defensive coordinator placed some high expectations on him, and boy, did Mooney deliver – and then some. He rushed for 1,339 yards (5.8 per carry) and scored 8 TDs. Without his production, Army may have gone winless. His 187 yards and 4TDs against Tulane was a monster effort.
RB: Eric Kettani Navy
Comments: Navy never did find a consistent back-up for Kettani and he was asked to carry the load at fullback for the Mids, which he did admirably with 982 yards for the season. He helped carry the Mids in victories over Wake Forest, Rutgers and Air Force.
WR: Tyree Barnes Navy
Comments: Behind White and Mooney, Barnes may be the best player on this team. He caught 20 passes for 400 yards, and was the Mids’ most consistent blocker which helped them lead the nation in rushing for a fourth consecutive season. The senior will be difficult to replace.
TE: Travis Dekker Air Force
Comments: Dekker broke his ankle during pre-season practice and only appeared in 9 games, but he was still productive, catching 13 passes for 129 yards. His 59-yard catch and leap against UNLV may have been the best play of the year for any SA team. Dekker is also a smart guy. He graduated in December with a 3.75 GPA in biochemistry.
OL: Mike Lemming Army
Comments: Collin Mooney became Army’s all-time single season rushing leader in large part to Mike Lemming. Rich Ellerson will definitely miss the senior’s leadership on and off the field. Army’s offensive line helped the Cadets break into the top-10 in rushing yards per game.
OL: Ricky Moore Navy
Comments: Moore was recruited as a defensive lineman and eventually started at offensive tackle for the Mids. This year he had the impossible task of replacing Antron Harper at center. He did a remarkable job, pairing with Anthony Gaskins and Curtis Bass to anchor Navy’s interior line.
OL: Andrew Pipes Air Force
Comments: Pipes, a senior, was the only current lineman for the Falcons who did not start a game in 2007; however, that did not prevent him from having an immediate impact. The All-MWC honorable mention center combined with Nick Charles to open huge wholes for Air Force’s stable of young running backs.
OL: Anthony Gaskins Navy
Comments: With all the flux at Navy’s tackle positions including the loss of Andrew McGinn, Gaskins really stepped up his play to help lead Navy’s rushing attack which averaged 292 yards per game. Both Kettani and quarterback Ricky Dobbs benefited greatly running inside due to Gaskins’ stellar season.
OL: Nick Charles Air Force
Comments: Charles is Air Force’s best lineman and he has put together two very good seasons. Air Force finished the season fifth in the country in rushing which is pretty impressive considering they started a freshman quarterback for most of the season. Unfortunately for Army and Navy, Charles is only a junior.
